Biography
Kajol is a volcano — who eclipsed all her contemporaries by her supreme poise and bubbly screen presence.
That she would be unconventional was expected since she happens to be the daughter of one of filmdom’s most bohemian and liberal minded actresses, Tanuja. Like mother, like daughter they say! And so, apart from the talent lineage that she has inherited from her mother and grandmother, Shobhana Samarth, her mother’s sharp wit and couldn’t care less attitude have naturally rubbed off on her too!
But when Kajol did finally enter the film industry one day, she took even her family by surprise. She would invariably bury her nose in a book in her free time and seldom seemed inclined to pursue an acting career. Nor did she ever evince any interest in the lure of fame and glamour.
As luck would have it, Gautam Rajadhyaksha, ace lensman, happened to be a close family friend who decided to cast her in his first production. Since studies per se didn’t excite the teenager, she said ‘yes’ to the offer merely to test the waters! And thus Bekhudi was born!
The film wasn’t earth shattering, as the cash registers proved within a few weeks of its release. What was otherwise established remains etched in viewers’ minds firmly. Forever. For, here was an actress whose effervescence sparkled beyond the cardboard images that actors have to live with all their lives.
Also, as she did not belong to any school of acting, she had in her a wild streak that made her a natural before the camera. Cinema aficionados adored her style — normal girl-next-door but one with a sharp focus and conviction. She refused to be dressed to the nines (a habit she retains even today despite her superstar status) and instead substantiated a believable image that every age group lapped up.
Needless to add that she was flooded with offers — a rare occurrence in Mumbai where actors are written off every Friday after a flop! But Kajol became the first choice of many directors who wanted to have a go at presenting this ‘unfilmi’ heroine in their ventures! What followed was Abbas Mustan produced Baazigar with Kajol and Shahrukh Khan in the lead, which did roaring business across the country. A suspense thriller with fast paced lilting music had Kajol in the role of an unsuspecting girl whose sister gets mysteriously killed. As a young determined girl, she displayed commendable range, steadfastly pursuing to bring the murderer to book. Yet again, she declined to doll up like an overdone Christmas tree, keeping in mind the distressed young character’s state of despondency. The film also gave a new hit pair — Shahrukh and kajol — whose onscreen chemistry endeared them to the masses overnight. So much so that people started comparing their sizzling song and dance sequences to those of Raj kapoor-Nargis and Dharmendra-Hema Malini.
In quick succession came, Yeh Dillagi, a frothy romance with Saif and Akshay Kumar, Hulchul with Ajay Devgan, Udhar Ki Zindagi (where she played Jeetendra’s granddaughter) and Karan Arjun with Shahrukh again. Rakesh Roshan directed Karan Arjun turned out to be one of his biggest blockbusters and though Kajol had hardly any role to speak of, she benefited immensely from its success.
And in the year 1995 again, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge hit the silver screen, a Yashraj banner film directed by Aditya Chopra, Kajol’s friend. The novel treatment and modern day storyline about NRIs made an electrifying impression on the bubble gum generation. And Kajol, in her role, oozed brazen nonchalance and rare oomph with great gusto. She even did a towel dance (Mere khawabon mein jo aaye…), a naughty titillating teasing number that could have bordered on the vulgar and obscene, but she handled the song with an impish charm and glint in her eyes, never pandering to the male gaze! Actually that’s one of her other assets — letting her hair down in a fancy-free world she conveys the feeling of joie de vivre with élan. And panache. And seems to thoroughly enjoy herself.
Ishq and Gupt (1997) further consolidated her star standing. What was surprising to note was her total indifference to her ranking and she turned down several plum assignments, carefully selecting to play characters she found believable. Or banners she found comfortable working for. She never went on assigning spree unlike others and enjoyed a quiet dignified lifestyle far removed from the pretentious world of make believe and showmanship!
Another childhood friend, Karan Johar, made Kuch Kuch Hota Hai with her best costar, Shahrukh and her cousin, Rani Mukherjee. Based loosely on the comic strip, Archie, the film became yet another milestone

Item song in Dashaavtar!!!

For all anime fans, here is good news from Kollywood. Dashavtar has one item songs which is animated. Sources tell that it was movie –director Bhavik Thakore’s suggestion to add an item number to spice up the movie. But Bhavik defends that it was the demand of situation which led them accept the idea of item number.
The situation where a beautiful maiden (Mohini) mesmerises the demons and lulls them into a sense of complacency lends itself to the song, which has all the trappings of an item number,’ Thakore told reporters. However Pune based Anushvi Productions which is the producer of the movie in association with Phoebus Creations Media Pvt. Ltd. Supported the idea throughout. Bhavik is reluctant to call the song as an item number. He clarifies-“ To call it an item number would be a bit far-fetched, given the contemporary meaning of the word, will be far fetched.” Bhavik rather calls the song a ‘fun-number’.

Bollywood Veteran Nadira Dies!

Famous Bollywood actress of her time , Nadira has expired in Bhatia Hospital Mumbai in which she was admitted after she complained of stroke. She was 73 years old.
Nadira was famous for playing Vampish roles in the acting carrer which spanned five decades with golden time in 50’s and 60’s.People specially remember her character in Raj Kapoor’s ‘Shree 420′. She acted with Motilal, another Bollywood veteran also in her acting career. Her last appearance was Mrs Louise in Josh.
“Yes, Sarkar Raj also came out with my film. So what?”-: Rajiv Khandelwal.

TV turned bollywood debutant Rajiv Khandelwal is not at all worried about competition between heavyweight and starry ‘Sarkar Raj’ and his movie Aamir which released together last friday.
“I don’t think of the hurdles. Yes, Sarkar Raj also came out with my film. So what? The minute you stop focusing on the finishing line and start looking around, you are finished,” said the latest entrant in Bollywood.
Rajiv Khandelwal is not a new name for Indian viewers as he was a superstar in TV industry before entering in Bollywood.. He acted in Ekta Kapoor’s famous ‘Kahi To Hoga’.
Rajiv also rubbished the claims that his debut movie is a carbon copy of Cellular’- a famous Hollywood film. In Aamir Rajiv is seen talking on mobile quite a lot.
“The minute I heard the script I loved the sound of it. The idea of my character roaming anxiously in the crowded areas of Mumbai, taking instructions on the phone from mysterious people, really caught my attention,” said Rajiv. “But it’s not a copy of the Hollywood film Cellular. People jumped to the conclusion when they saw me running helter-skelter with a cell phone,” added the actor.
Rajiv’s is wary of his habit of loosing mobiles so often. “I lost my phone last month. Then again last week I dropped it on the beach and lost the phone and all my numbers at a time when I needed to invite all my friends and associates for my premiere.” – lamented the handsome wiry actor.
While shooting the film the actor had an interesting encounter with a female fan. It happened in the crowded Dongri area where Rajiv was shooting Aamir with hidden cameras, hoping he wouldn’t be recognised. Unfortunately, a woman fan jumped out of the crowd and accosted Rajiv, recognising him as Sujal, the character from Ekta Kapoor’s soap Kahiin To Hoga that brought him fame.
“We were shooting on the road in Dongri where I had to run across the street. And there couldn’t be a re-take for obvious reasons. Suddenly this woman spotted me from a taxi. She stopped her vehicle mid-street, got out and started screaming my name.” “The camera was rolling. I told her I needed to cross the street before the lights changed from red to green. She wouldn’t listen. So I gently pushed her hands away and crossed as per the script. That shot of he woman stopping me is in the film.”
Shooting Aamir was a great challenge for Rajiv. “We shot for 28 days on the streets of Mumbai. Except a shot in an airport washroom, everything has been shot outdoors in some of the most congested areas of Mumbai. We first tried shooting with normal cameras. But that didn’t work. Coming from television when people in Dharavi and Dongri saw cameras pointing at me, they immediately recognised me.” –Rajive explains.
His work has been appreciated in his debut movie both by viewers and public. “My most cherished moment was when Hema Maliniji after seeing Aamir said, ‘Welcome to the film fraternity,’ said a thrilled Khandelwal.
